Saint In a Small Blue House

I was jolted to life this morning at 5:15 by the extremely annoying alarm clock.  Somehow I managed to pull the sleep trigger (snooze button) several times, and finally got up at 5:45.  I awoke in an unusually peaceful mood.  I kept thinking about how silly it was to have “things”, and how wasteful it would be to make ridiculous amounts of money.  I kept thinking about professional athletes, and how much money they make.  What in the world could you do with all that money?  Funny thing is that some of these folks will end up broke or bankrupt.  More money than you could spend, yet they spend it all and then some.

Every day I drive by this little house on the way to and from work.  It’s dark grey-blue, and is really, really tiny.  It looks like it’s been there for at least a hundred years.  It’s inviting and homey.  I’d love to go inside and have a look around.  It stands in stark contrast to the homes around it.  It’s a wonderful scene to behold.  I’d love to meet the owner and take their picture standing next to this beautiful home.  In my imagination, I see an elderly woman who’s managed to outlive her entire family.  How I’d love to talk with her about all she’s seen in life,  and to ask for advice on living.

Obviously, the owner of this home does not have, nor need money or things.  Whoever lives there has a simple life which I imagine to be very rewarding.  Living life for life itself, no other reason, no ambitions, no corporate-ladder-climbing, no worries.  What would it be like to have a life like that?  Who would you be without all the desires and fears you have?  Close your eyes and think about that for a minute… really think about it.  No desire, no fear… who are you?  You can’t think about who you want to be (desire), nor who you should be (fear), just who you are.  It may catapult you into the oneness of being.  The final advaitic trigger.
